To fulfill the CFA Program entrance education requirements, you must have a bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree or your exam window must be within 23 months of your graduation month. If you need assistance to determine whether your degree is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree or higher, contact your college or university to make an inquiry. Candidates who are currently undergraduate students may take the Level I exam and must be within 11 months of graduation to sit for Level II.

As an alternative to the education requirement, you may fulfill the entrance requirements with 4,000 hours of qualified, professional work experience or a combination of work experience and education that is accrued over a minimum of 36 months. To qualify under the combination requirement, the dates of education and professional work experience cannot overlap. The total must be accrued sequentially.  Eligible professional experience for entrance to the program instead of a degree does not have to be investment related.  If you have a combination of work experience and higher education to achieve the minimum hours and years, assume that higher education takes 1,000 hours per year.

Applicants must also meet the admission requirements for professional conduct.  During the application process, you must sign Professional Conduct and Candidate Responsibility statements.

The exams are only administered in English, and candidates must have sufficient English proficiency.

The CFA Program enrollment requirements are self-reporting.  Because of the many applicants and candidates, CFA Institute cannot make entrance pre-determinations for individual applicants.
