Q:I want to claim exemption of income and deduction for expenses. Should I submit documentary evidence with the Tax Return - Individuals?

A:If you claim exemption of salaries income under section 8(1A)(c) of the Inland Revenue Ordinance or relief under Double Taxation Arrangements between Hong Kong and other jurisdictions, you should submit the supporting documents with the return (Please refer to Question 20). However, please do not submit any documentary evidence in support of other deduction claims. They should be retained for a period of 6 years after the expiration of the relevant year of assessment. You should be able to present them to the Assessor for verification when required.
