How long you sit is considered sedentary

Whether it's a job requirement or a lifestyle habit, we go through life unconsciously sitting for long periods of time.

In general, any of the following conditions can be considered sedentary:

(1) Sitting awake for more than 5 days a week;

(2) Sitting for more than 8 hours a day;

(3) Frequently do not get up for 1.5 consecutive hours.

Being "sedentary" is not only linked to obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, abnormal cholesterol levels and other problems, but also increases the risk of death from cardiovascular disease and cancer.

According to the 2020 Guidelines for Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), adults should get at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week. Or at least 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous intensity aerobic activity.
