Introduction to Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology

Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology has a rich history of 74 years and is located in the provincial capital of Harbin, on the banks of the Songhua River. from its humble beginnings, HLJUST has developed into a multidisciplinary university including the faculties of science, engineering, management, arts, economics and law. HLJUST main focus has been on engineering, specifically as it relates to mining engineering. For its outstanding contributions to the regional economy and coal industry in China, it has been labeled the “backbone” of the industry. It is jointly-sponsored by the Heilongjiang Province People’s Government and Ministry of Emergency Management of the People's Republic of China（State Administration of Work Safety）. HLJUST is rated as Excellent in the Evaluation of Undergraduate Teaching by the Ministry ofEducation.It is also a model for training-oriented universities in Heilongjiang Province.

There are currently 17 different departments with 23874 full-time students enrolled, including 22515 undergraduates and 1359 postgraduates. The employment rate of undergraduates has been in the forefront of universities in Heilongjiang province for 19 consecutive years, and it has been awarded the "University with Typical Employment Experience for Graduates in China " and"National Advanced Organization for Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship Education".

At present, the university employs 1755 teaching and administrative staff including a large number of outstanding talents and teams. For example, the faculty has received such titles as "National Excellent Teacher", "Provincial Model Teacher", "Provincial Teaching Team" and lots of "Double-qualified" teachers.

The university has established a doctoral program of "Coal Mine Accident Emergency Rescue and Impact Control", which can confer on the recipient a doctor's degree in the first-level discipline of safety science and engineering. It further is the site of a post-doctoral research station in the first-level discipline of safety science and engineering. There are 11 masters’ degree programs in first-level disciplines, 1 master degree program in second-level disciplines, and 9 professional masters’ degree programs. The university has also, been granted the right to recommend test-free postgraduates.

The faculty includes 9 provincial leading talent teams. The campus consists of 5 provincial and ministerial level key laboratories (including 1 laboratory jointly built by the province and the ministry), 9 provincial engineering and technology research centers, 1 provincial collaborative innovation center, 1 provincial key cultivation think-tank, 1 provincial key research base for humanities and social sciences and a number of high-end science and technology service systems such as, those located in domestic first-class engineering training and basic experiment center.

We offer 59 undergraduate programs, including 5 national first-class programs and 12 provincial first-class programs; In addition, HJUST offers 2 national first-class courses, 16 provincial first-class courses and 2 provincial courses for ideological and political construction. The campus also contains 2 national college students' education off-campus practice bases, 1 provincial training mode innovation demonstration area, 1 virtual simulation experiment teaching of state-level demonstration projects, 3 provincial virtual simulation experiment teaching centers, a virtual simulation experiment teaching demonstration projects at the provincial level, 4 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. It also serves as the location for 2 revitalizations of northeast old industrial base of talents training centers and a national coal mine safety training base.

The university has undertaken 45 national and 131 provincial and ministerial projects, including the National Science and Technology Support Program, the National Key Research and Development Program projects (subjects), and the National Natural Science Foundation projects, providing funding of more than 315 million RMB. It has won 63 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. At present, there are 5 provincial (ministerial) level key laboratories, 9 provincial (ministerial) level engineering centers, 1 provincial think tank of the Resource Based Municipal Sustainable Development Research Center and 1 provincial collaborative innovation center of "Mineral Resources Development and Utilization". A further highlight is the central laboratory of "Basic Research on Gas and Hydrocarbon Gas Transportation Pipeline Safety", which serves the national safety production technology support system. It is the one of the first research platforms for hydrate technology to prevent gas disasters and gas solidification storage and transportation at home and abroad.

In the past 20 years of operation, the 2 Sino-foreign cooperative education projects with Russia and Canada have cultivated thousand students. Furthermore, we have established intercollegiate partnerships with universities in United Kingdom, Ireland, Russia, Belarus, Japan, Germany, Hungary, the United States, Canada, Austria and Australia.
