After more than 120 years of running a school, Henan Agricultural University has witnessed the history of modern and modern higher education and agricultural education in Henan. The school originated from Henan University, founded in 1902, was changed into Henan Public Agricultural Special School in 1912, and merged with Zhongzhou University and Henan Public Law and Administration Special School in 1927 to become the Fifth National Sun Yat-sen University. In 1952, when the national departments were adjusted, the school was re-established independently and renamed Henan Agricultural College, and in 1984, it was renamed Henan Agricultural University. In 2009, it became the first provincial agricultural college jointly built by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the local provincial government. In 2012, it became a university jointly built by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and the provincial government. In 2013, the Henan Food Crop Collaborative Innovation Center led by the University was selected as the first batch of "2011 Plan" in the country. In 2020, it will be selected as a characteristic backbone university in Henan Province. In 2021, it will be selected as a "double first-class" engineering university in Henan Province.

The school has Zhengzhou Culture Road campus, Longzihu campus and Xuchang campus, covering an area of 2,648,300 square meters. It has built an information network environment with interconnection and comprehensive coverage of two campuses and three campuses, as well as a digital campus integrated application information sharing platform. There are 10 disciplines of agriculture, engineering, science, economics, management, law, literature, medicine, education and art. It has 1 first-level national key discipline, 19 provincial and ministerial key disciplines, and 9 post-doctoral research mobile stations. 9 doctoral degree authorized first-level disciplines, 2 doctoral professional degree categories; 18 master's degree authorized first-level disciplines, 17 master's professional degree categories; 88 undergraduate programs. There are 33,993 students. The school has 2,532 active teaching staff. Among them, 979 hold senior professional and technical positions such as professors and associate professors, and 1,439 hold doctoral degrees. There are 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and 123 talents at all levels. It has been awarded as Henan Province's "three all Education" comprehensive reform pilot universities, the National employment Top 50 universities, the National innovation and entrepreneurship top 50 universities, the national rural revitalization talent training quality university, the national food security propaganda and education base.
