CAFA Profile
The Central Academy of Fine Arts is the only higher art school directly under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. The two disciplines of Fine arts and design of our school have entered the "double first-class" construction sequence for two consecutive rounds, and it is also the only art college whose two disciplines have been selected as "double first-class" construction disciplines. There are 17 schools, including the School of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, the Department of Oil Painting, the Department of Printmaking, the Department of Sculpture, the Department of Mural Painting, the Department of Fine Art, the School of Experimental and Science-Technology Art, the School of Humanities, the School of Design, the School of Architecture, the School of city Design, the School of Art Management and Education, the (Sino-French) School of Art and Design Management, the School of Restoration, the Graduate School, the School of Marxism and the School of Continuing Education. It is a teaching institution, as well as nine scientific research institutions such as the Aesthetic Education Research Institute, the Art Design Research Institute, the National Thematic Art Creation Research Center, the Visual Art Advanced Innovation Center, and the editorial Department. There are 736 faculty members; and 6235 students in the university, including 4403 undergraduates, 173 adult undergraduates, 1338 postgraduate students and 321 doctoral students. There are more than 70 international sister colleges and universities, including the Royal Academy of Art, Rhode Island School of Design, California Academy of Fine Arts, Paris National Academy of Fine Arts, etc., covering more than 30 countries; There are nearly 200 international students from more than 40 countries in the world as well

CAFA History and Introduction
The predecessor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts is the National Beiping Art Academy, which can be traced back to 1918 when the famous educator CAI Yuanpei advocated the establishment of the National Beijing Art School, and the famous art educator Zheng Jin served as the first president. It was the first national art education institution in Chinese history and the beginning of modern art education in China. In November 1949, the National Beiping Art Academy and the Art department of Huabei University were merged. The predecessor of the art departments of Huabei University was the Fine Arts Department of Yan 'an Lu Xun Art Academy, which was founded in 1938. Xu Beihong served as the first president. In January 1950, with the approval of the Government Administration Council of the Central People's Government, it was officially named Central Academy of Fine Arts. On April 1, the founding ceremony of the Central Academy of Fine Arts was held at the campus site No. 5, Jiaowei Hutong, Wangfujing.
The Central Academy of Fine Arts currently has Huajiadi Headquarters, Yanjiao Campus, Xiaoying campus and Shanghai campus, with a total teaching and research area of 495 mu and a total construction area of 296,000 square meters, of which Wangjing Campus covers an area of 205 mu and a construction area of 186,000 square meters. Yanjiao Campus covers an area of 205 mu with a construction area of 99,000 square meters; Xiaoying campus covers an area of 18 mu, building area of 0.6 thousand square meters; Shanghai campus has a construction area of 53,000 square meters. CAFA is equipped with well-equipped classrooms, laboratories, libraries, art galleries, gymnasiums, multimedia classrooms and other teaching facilities. The professional laboratory is well equipped with high technical content, which strongly supports the professional teaching and discipline construction of our Academy. The library is one of the most advanced art libraries in China, with a total of nearly 400,000 books. The museum was approved as the first batch of "National Key Art Museum", with a collection of precious collections, including more than 2,000 scroll paintings since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The museum also regularly holds exhibitions of works by teachers and students of the school, and hosts fine art exhibitions of high academic level at home and abroad. The annual number of visitors to the museum plus touring exhibitions is 695400, and the annual number of visitors to the museum's official website is 719,529. In addition, the gymnasium and multimedia classrooms can well meet the teaching requirements.

According to the results of the fifth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, our school won A+ in Fine arts, A in Design, A in Art theory and C+ in Architecture; In the soft subject "China's Best Subject Ranking (2023)", our school ranked first in fine arts, 11th in design, 3rd in art theory and 33rd in architecture. The postgraduate disciplines and academic places of our school are 2 first-level disciplines (art, design); 2 master's degree programs in first-level disciplines (architecture, urban and rural planning); 1 professional doctoral degree authorized category (Fine arts and calligraphy); Professional master's degree authorized in 3 categories (design, architecture, landscape architecture); It offers a total of 29 undergraduate programs, Including Chinese painting, calligraphy, painting, sculpture, experimental art, visual communication design, industrial design, product design, digital media art, clothing and costume design, photography, fine arts, Art history theory, cultural industry management, architecture, Landscape architecture design, film and television photography and production, environmental design, public art, animation, art management, art and technology, cultural heritage conservation and repair Arts and Crafts, Art Design, Art Education, City Design, Art of Science and Technology, Art education; At present, our school has three post-doctoral mobile stations of art theory, fine arts and design, with 33 postdocs in the station. Since 2004, the Acadmey has experimented with the teaching management of the credit system and the new teaching school calendar, with 38 teaching weeks per year divided into three semesters. The first semester is 20 weeks, mainly arranging compulsory courses stipulated by the school and various professional schools; the second semester is 10 weeks, mainly arranging professional courses and outdoor teaching courses; The third semester lasts for 8 weeks, mainly professional elective courses and public elective courses arranged by the academy, and students can choose cross-professional courses independently according to their hobbies and professional development needs.
At present, CAFA has 1 national virtual simulation experiment center (art, design and Architecture Virtual Simulation experiment Center), 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center (Sculpture teaching research experiment center), and 3 Beijing experimental teaching demonstration centers (photography studio, printmaking technology studio, architecture teaching experiment center). There are 2 off-campus practice bases in Beijing (Dunhuang off-campus practice base of Central Academy of Fine Arts and China Art Museum Off-campus practice base of Central Academy of Fine Arts), 6 off-campus practice bases at university level (including Zhuxian Town International Printmaking Base, Yungang Grottoes, etc.) and 28 off-campus practice bases at university and department level
