Yangzhou University (YZU) is a key comprehensive university jointly constructed by Jiangsu provincial government and Ministry of Education, and one of the first among colleges and universities authorized to grant master and doctoral degrees. The history of YZU can be traced back to as early as 1902, when Mr. Zhang Jian, a renowned modern entrepreneur and educator, set up Tongzhou Private Teachers’ School and Tonghai Agricultural School.
YZU is now running on a large scale with a wide range of disciplines. YZU offers 124 bachelor's programs, 77 master's programs, 24 doctoral programs on campus, and holds 20 post-doctoral programs both in and off campuses, which covers 12 disciplines including philosophy, economy, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and arts. Now there are more than 29,000 undergraduates and 15,200 postgraduates studying at YZU. 7 disciplines, namely, Chemistry, Plant and Animal Sciences, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Material Science and Computer Science have entered ESI top 1% among worldwide universities and scientific research institutions. There are now over 6,000 faculty and staff, including 2,500 faculties and 1,900 medical staff members. More than 1,300 are senior faculties and 3,100 are master and doctoral supervisors. YZU also has 2 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering and 2 foreign academician. YZU has also established an international joint laboratory.
YZU attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchanges, and it has set up close cooperation and exchange relations with over 281 higher education institutions and research institutes in 56 countries and regions. Now there are over 2400 overseas students from 68 countries pursuing their academic dreams at YZU.
